The data center industry has become one of the most critical backbones of the digital economy. Every online service, from e-commerce to financial technology, and every byte of information in cloud storage, relies on resilient and efficient data centers. As Indonesia accelerates its digital transformation, the demand for skilled professionals who understand the complexities of data center infrastructure is rapidly growing.
For the academic sector, this presents both an opportunity and a responsibility. By equipping students with industry knowledge and hands-on exposure, universities play a vital role in preparing the next generation of engineers, technicians, and digital infrastructure leaders. This is why collaboration between academia and industry players like Data Garda is essential—ensuring that future talents are not only academically capable but also industry-ready.
Yesterday, Pak Ruli, one of Data Garda’s core team engineers, was invited as a lecturer at Universitas Indonesia to deliver an engaging session on Electrical Systems in Data Centers. His lecture highlighted both the theoretical foundations and practical applications of electrical infrastructure that powers mission-critical facilities.
The session covered five key sub-topics:
1. Electrical Power Systems: Generators, Transformers, and Switchgear
Students were introduced to how continuous power supply is safeguarded through redundant systems, ensuring uptime in every condition.
2. UPS Systems: Types and Operations
The lecture explained the role of UPS as the “bridge of reliability,” providing uninterrupted power flow during outages and equipment changeovers.
3. PDU and Power Management
Participants explored how Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and advanced power management contribute to operational efficiency and scalability in data centers.
4. Grounding and Bonding in Data Centers
Grounding and bonding practices were emphasized as crucial for both safety and regulatory compliance, reducing risks of electrical hazards.
5. Electrical Safety Practices and Regulations
The session concluded with an important focus on safety culture, stressing how adherence to strict regulations and best practices is a non-negotiable element in sustaining data center operations.
At Data Garda, we believe that knowledge-sharing is the key to building a strong digital talent ecosystem in Indonesia. Through partnerships with academic institutions, we aim to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications, empowering students to step confidently into the data center industry.
